Getting to Elba by ferry
You can reach the Island of Elba with one of the ferries that leave from Piombino every day with one of the four shipping companies: Moby, Toremar, Blunavy and Corsica Ferries. The shipping lines of the companies cover the entire day, from 5 am to 10.30 pm in the evening. The crossing takes about an hour but it is also possible to take a fast hydrofoil which reduces the crossing to only 35 minutes. The main port on the island of Elba is Portoferraio, but it is not the only one. In fact, it is also possible to reach the island with connections to the ports of Rio Marina and Cavo, both on the eastern side.
During the weekend and especially during the summer season it is advisable to make a reservation in advance, in order to have the certainty of transport and also to be able to take advantage of discounted rates from the companies.

How to get to Elba Island by car
Want to reach the island of Elba by car? To reach the island you need to reach the port of Piombino from which depart the ferries of all shipping companies that provide daily transport service to and from the island of Elba.
From the north: From Milan A1 freeway (Autostrada del Sole) take the A15 (autocamionale della Cisa) at Parma Ovest to reach the A12 Genova-Livorno, exit at Rosignano, continue on the S.S. Aurelia (direction Rome) to Venturina-Isola d’Elba and from there follow the signs (PORTO -Isola d’Elba) to Piombino Marittima.
From the south:Highway A12 Rome-Grosseto: S.S.1 Aurelia exit Venturina-Isola d ‘Elba and from here follow the signs (PORT – embarkation Island of Elba) until you reach the port in Piombino Marittima.
From the north-east: In Bologna take the A1 freeway towards Florence, arrived in Florence follow the signs for Pisa-Livorno: after Livorno exit at Rosignano, then continue on the SS Aurelia towards Rome-Grosseto to Venturina-Isola d ‘Elba and from there follow the signs (PORT – embarkation Elba Island) until you reach the port in Piombino Marittima.
Alternatively, the S.G.C. Firenze-Pisa-Livorno: exit at Firenze Signa and follow the S.S. to Collesalvetti, return to the freeway to Rosignano Marittima, take the highway to Venturina-Isola d’Elba and from there to Piombino Marittima.
How to get to the island of Elba by train
Want to get to the island of Elba by train? To reach the port of Piombino, the reference station is Piombino Marittima, located inside the port and overlooking the docks from which the ferries of the various companies depart from the Island of Elba.
Alternatively, you can take the train to Campiglia Marittima station and from there take a bus that will take you directly to the port of Piombino.

Reach Elba by coach
Want to reach the island of Elba by coach? It is possible to reach the Island of Elba from Milan and Florence with several companies that arrive directly in the port area of Piombino a few dozen meters from the docks where the ferries of the shipping companies dock on the Island of Elba.
